"One physicist says that the big question is: Are we alone in the universe or not? I go out at night and look out at
night and look at the stars, hundreds of billions of stars, and I think that there are surely other galaxies whose
solar systems include planets with thinking life... In each book the characters are living into the questions that we
all have to live into. Some of the questions don't have finite answers, but the questions themselves are important. Don't
stop asking, and don't let anybody tell you that the questions aren't worth it. They are." Madeline L'
Engle, New York, September 1997
Hi! My name is Joy and I’m 11 now, although I created this two summers ago, when I 'was still
9. I started this website because I’m a kid who thinks about a lot of things, so I know it’s really
hard to find other kids who think about big topics.
I think about the world---it could be changed in a lot of ways---no drugs, no prejuduce, more trees, less air pollution,
no homeless, no hungry, and no endangered or extinct animals. How can I make a difference? In fact, I came up with this site
because of that---think of how much kids can make a difference, once they actually put their foot down!
Another big topic I think a lot about is God. What is God? Why were we put here by God? Does God have a beginning or an
end? Where is God, generally – where does God roam? God roams everywhere, but is there is a special place God
lives? (By the way, I don’t think God is a He or a She.) Is it Heaven? Does Heaven exist? What do people DO in heaven,
anyway? Is it true people go to Heaven if they’re nice and to Hell if they’re bad? Is there such a thing as true
evil? What DOES a spirit look like anyway? Were we really created in the image of God? If so, are aliens created in the image
of God?
I got this next topic from this one movie about philosophy ( "What The Bleep Do We Know"- it’s a really good
movie! I think you should see it, it’s really cool!) Does everybody see the same thing? For instance, what if someone
SAYS they see red, only to them it’s green with the name red? Wouldn’t they call it red, since whenever
they saw something that color, they were told it was red, even though they were seeing green? Could white be darker,
perhaps, then black to some people, but to them the word darker means lighter? Really makes your head
spin, doesn’t it?
I hope you had something to think about today. And maybe you’ll post some of your OWN Big Questions-all you have
to do is write them to me and if you want i'll post them on my website. And if you send me a picture i'll
post that too, with a short discription of yourself (if given). But what’s this
site about, anyway?
It’s about making friends, exchanging and discussing ideas, and helping change the world, with other
KIDS WHO THINK. So, ask BIG QUESTIONS. Become a KID WHO THINKS!
